  • Why do you think Jesus said what he said in verse 48? (A helpful piece of information: When Jesus said, “you” (both times) in this verse, it is plural).
  • The faith of the Judean official was great, evidenced by the fact that he believed that Jesus’ simple statement, “your son will live,” was enough to heal his dying son. Does this convict or challenge you in your faith?
  • Do you think there was a difference in the official’s faith from verse 50 to verse 53? If so, what was that difference, and what brought it about?
  • The boy’s deadly sickness was planned and used by God to bring him and his entire household to faith in Jesus. Was it worth it? Is there anything in your life from the past or even right now that God has planned and used to bring you and/or others to faith in Christ? If so, praise Him for it! If it is a present issue/pain, then pray that God would strengthen and focus your faith in Him so that you will endure it with hope, peace, and joy.

Memory Verses

Psalm 19:33-34 “Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end. [34] Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart..”

Prayer Focus

Pray for Indonesia. Pray that God would continue to lead our elders and church towards deeper partnerships and a larger influence in Yogyakarta. Ask God to show you how to respond to the needs of others.

Missional Idea for Advancing the Gospel

Winter is in force in Wentzville, which means there’s always a chance to have some snow on the ground. Head up to Wal-mart and purchase a couple of nice snow shovels. The next time we get a few inches of snow, take your friends or family out to shovel your neighbors’ driveways. When they ask why you’ve helped them, be prepared to respond in love with the truth of the gospel (II Timothy 4:2).

Catechism

Question 83: What does Christ do for his people?
Answer: He does the work of a prophet, a priest and a king.
Foundational Scripture: Hebrews 1:1-3; Revelation 1:5; Matthew 13:57; Hebrews 5:5-10; John 18:37.
